Subject Learning Objectives (SLOs)

Subject Learning Goals

Linking Statement

  1. Explain relevant approaches to research, the assumptions they make regarding knowledge, and pathways to impact on professional practices

  2. Relate research practices to issues of importance in professional practice

  3. Identify and critically analyse research in a field relevant to a chosen practice context

  4. Explain the contribution specific research could make to practice in their chosen field

  5. Reflect, analyse and identify their own learning in this subject.

Goal 1:

To further develop and continue in my professional practice, relevant research approaches and their impact towards knowledge and learning will be articulated. To do this, assessment tasks and group discussions will be utilized.

Goal 2:

The relationship between research practices and professional practice will be explored in the context of working in a low socio-economic, government high school setting. Raising the importance of such exploration.

Goal 3:

Research will be identified and critically analysed in the Educational, training and learning field of context. With a deeper dive into the Vocational Educational Training (VET) delivered in a low socio-economic, government high school. To do this literature and grey literature will be observed and appropriately referenced.

Goal 4:

To further discuss the contribution specific research could make will be related back to the original chosen practice.

As a full time VET Engineering teacher working in a low socio-economic setting, my professional context shapes the way I approach research and learning. My subject goals focus on integrating research into my teaching practice to enhance student engagement and enhance learning outcomes, particularly for learners who may face socio-economic barriers to success.

By participating and completing this units activities and assessment requirements, I aim to identify better research techniques and along with select methods which will help investigate issues such as student success / pass rate, motivation, skill development and employment in the engineering industry.
